Police arrest over 700 protesters attempting to 'Occupy Wall Street'

New York: Over 700 protesters, who inspired by the Arab Spring, have been demonstrating against corporate greed at the Wall Street and massive bailouts to banks, were arrested here for defying police orders.
The protesters were arrested when they tried to cross the Brooklyn Bridge and attempted to disrupt traffic.
"Over 700 summonses and desk appearance tickets have been issued in connection with a demonstration on the Brooklyn Bridge late this afternoon after multiple warnings by police were given to protesters to stay on the pedestrian walkway, and that if they took roadway they would be arrested," a police spokesman said.
Hundreds of protesters have camped out at Wall Street for the 'Occupy Wall Street movement' since September 17 and have held protests outside the New York Stock Exchange and NYPD headquarters.
"We are the majority. We are the 99 per cent. And we will no longer be silent. We are using the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic to achieve our ends and encourage the use of nonviolence to maximise the safety of all participants," Occupy Wall Street said in a statement.
As the demonstrators reached the bridge, they spread out to the pedestrian walkway as well as the roadway, bringing traffic to a halt.
Police said those arrested were issued criminal court summons and were later released.
