London: Inclement weather denied India maiden victory on England tour as the third ODI at Lord’s was abandoned due to rain with scores levelled on Sunday. The thrilling contest ended in a tie as England (270/8 in 49.5 over) were at par on Duckworth Lewis. The match result helped England clinch the ODI series with one match still to go.
Ravi Bopara, who stood firm against the Indian attack despite fall of early wickets, was the last man to depart before rain forced abandonment.
Bopara made a gritty 96 before being dismissed on the last ball of the match. Munaf got rid of Bopara just after dismissing Graeme Swann with a brilliant throw in the 49th over. Bopara shared man of the match trophy with Suresh Raina who helped India post a healthy target.
Earlier, left-arm seamer RP Singh gave a perfect start to India as he removed skipper Craig Kieswetter and Alastrair Cook in consecutive deliveries to jolt England’s chase of 281. Singh got Kieswetter (12) caught by Ravindra Jadeja at mid off on the last delivery of the fourth over before striking on the first ball of his sixth over to remove skipper Cook (12).
Praveen Kumar capitalized on the twin-strike by RP Singh to give England third blow by bowling out Jonathan Trott. Praveen’s off-cutter hit Trott’s willow before clattering in to the stumps to reduce England to 61/3.
However, Bell and Bopara brought up their respective half centuries to lead England's recovery. In the 33rd over, Jadeja got Ian Bell caught at long on by Manoj Tiwary (sub) to break the dangerous looking 4th wicket partnership.
Bell slammed a gritty 54 shared 98-run stand with Ravi Bopara for the fourth wicket, consolidating the England innings after early setbacks, before being dismissed.
Ashwin then didn’t allow Stroke to settle down and sent him back raising hope for victory in the Indian camp.
England lost their sixth batsman in the form of Tim Bresnan who was bowled out by RP Singh in after a speedy 27 off 22 balls.

Fiery shows by Suresh Raina and skipper MS Dhoni in death overs powered India to a challenging 280/5 against England in the 4th ODI at Lord’s on Sunday. The left-right combination proved lethal for the hosts as despite getting first four wickets for just 110 runs, the bowlers lost the plot and allowed the visitors post a mammoth target.
The flamboyance of both batsmen set the stadium at fire as the duo scored runs with boundaries and sixes, setting up for an exciting contest of the unpleasant tour. Raina slammed a brilliant 84, studded with seven boundaries and two sixes and shared a daunting 163-run partnership with his master for the fifth wicket before falling to Steven Finn in the final over.
Dhoni on the other hand stayed unbeaten after his captain’s knock of 78. He hit three sixes and six magnificent boundaries during his swashbuckling innings.
Put in to bat, India openers Ajinkya Rahane and Parthiv Patel started slowly but soon accelerated the scoring rate. In the 12th over, Rahane took 14 runs off Steven Finn with big hits to send the Indian spectators in delirium.
With opening bowlers failing to get the breakthrough, England skipper Alastir Cook brought in Stuart Broad to break the dangerous looking opening stand. Broad obliged his master with the wicket of Rahane in his first over.
Broad trapped Ajinkya Rahane leg before wickets after the right-handed score a speedy 38. Rahane shared 65-run stand with Patel for the first wicket.
In his next over Broad struck again to get rid of Patel with scoreboard reading 70. Patel top-edged Broad giving an easy catch to Ravi Bopara in the circle.
Dravid and Kohli consolidated the innings after the twin blow and took the score past 100-mark. The duo played sensible cricket and kept rotating the strike.
But before the duo could build up a solid stand, Cook handled the leather to Swann who once again spun magic with his double strike in his very first over.
Swann stalled India’s progress by removing Kohli and Dravid in his very first over to reduce India to 110/4. Introduced to bowl the 26th over, Swann got Kohli (16) caught behind on the second delivery before talking an easy return catch of Dravid (19).
But a magical turnaround was in store for India as Dhoni and Raina, after starting cautiously, turned the tide in visitors favour with aggressive batting.
After a brief lull, Raina, in the 36th over, tried to break the shackles and did it successfully with two fours in Finn's over.
Dhoni then confirmed India's intentions to shift gears when he hoisted Swann for a six over mid-wicket in the next over. The duo then demolished the English attack and scored 109 runs in last ten overs to boost their side to a healthy total.
